How to: Self-care

We have the time, so why not make it all about you..

It’s safe to say these last few months have brought about a lot of change, asking us to adjust, adapt and grow. It has been a period of slowing down, reflecting, giving time to yourself and finding joy in the little things. It’s an interesting irony – isolation has perhaps been a time of connecting instead of distancing. Connecting with people in a different way, tuning into your own thoughts and taking time to do the things you have always wanted to do but got too busy for.

Yet still, all this slowed down time can seemingly fly by so fast and it is easy to get lost in it all. So here are some of our top tips and recommendations to get you through isolation from routines, books, shows and of course your iso wardrobe…

How to plan your day in ISO.

How you start your morning really sets the tone for the rest of the day. Waking up each morning with a purpose and goal for the day can help in keeping you on track and motivated. Just because you’re in the house doesn’t mean you can’t look chic! What you wear can have a real impact on how you feel and the mood of your day. Knitwear is always a good idea for practicality, comfort and of course style. Elka Collective’s new collection has been my go-to as I have been reaching for chunky knits and oversized silhouettes to pair with either sleek pants or some cozy trackpants for a more casual vibe. And who says you can’t have fun with your iso fits – play with colour, tones and accessories!

Establishing a routine is another way to stay productive and feel accomplished. Perhaps your morning routine might include some exercise or meditation before sitting down to work. Another tip is writing out a to-do list everyday – nothing beats the satisfaction of crossing your tasks off.. am I right?!

The importance of self-care.

With more time on my hands, isolation has allowed me to form a routine of my own, giving attention to my body, skin and hair. The day begins with a cup of hot lemon water and a probiotic tablet, both with countless health benefits. It is important to regularly follow a skincare routine and now you have the time to perfect your own. I have an easy 4 step ritual – cleanse, tone, serum and moisturise with an added retinol cream at night for smoothing fine lines and instantly brightening.

Extra pampering is also a big YES for me! Some of the products I have been loving to indulge in are:

Chanel HYDRA BEAUTY Camelia Repair Mask – for intensive hydration and glowing radiance

111SKIN eye masks – for a plumped and brighter eye area

Lancer Caviar Lime Acid Peel – for an instant pick me up.

And don’t forget about your hair! I have been regularly using the Shu Uemura Colour Lustre hair mask and serum as a rich treatment for dead ends and deep nourishment.

Binge worthy books/series.

This is the perfect time to start a new book or pick up an old favourite. Here are some of our top picks!

Normal People by Sally Rooney – a multi-award winning romance novel

Three Women by Lisa Taddeo – an intimate narration of the unspoken thoughts and desires of real women

The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz – an illuminating guide to happiness, freedom and love

Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion by Jia Tolentino – an enlightening essay on contemporary cultures

Isolation has also given us plenty of time to watch or binge (guilty, oops) some of the best series at the moment!

Ozark – an award winning crime drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat

Hollywood – an elegant drama set in the Hollywood Golden Age

Normal People – an adaptation of the best-selling book above

Outlander – a sweeping historical drama

Tiger King – this one goes without saying…

The Last Dance – the sports documentary on the legendary Michael Jordan

Westworld – a critically acclaimed dystopian fiction

How to prep your wardrobe coming out of ISO.

Even though you might not be dressing up right now, who said you can’t plan ahead! I know I am looking forward to styling up my looks again especially with winter coming up and once again, it’s all about layering! Leather is a big trend that will be making its way back into this season and Elka Collective has got it just right with some stunning new brown leather pieces. Their fresh leather jacket and midi skirt will be on repeat for me with its effortless luxury feel. Whether it be back to work looks or relaxed nights out, there is something here for everyone and every occasion!
