10 COMMANDMENTS OF DIOR
..now you're speaking my language.
Like many seasons under the guidance of Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, this season, Dior’s Pre-Fall collection made a statement that extends beyond fabric and silhouette. Unlike other collections throughout the year, Pre-Fall is the only collection without a show, without a runway and without any other special effects. The clothes stand alone, speaking for themselves.
This collection was not a grand spectacle to be admired from a far but rather a close study that asks us to reflect on the role of fashion and women in the past, present and coming future. Chirui weaves together her own reflections and analysis based on her vast study through The Manifesto by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior in This Millennium which are positioned throughout this collection. Her manifesto is found upon 10 declarations which speak of sustainability, inclusivity, diversity and the creative process and production of design that takes inspiration from the past to illuminate the future. They command attention, contemplation and above all the spirit of Dior in a new era.
1. Fashion is political. Fashion is desire.
2. Fashion design occurs through the connection of communities, knowledge and visions.
3. The process of fashion design is a scientific discipline.
4. Design has no hierachies.
5. The body of fashion is abstract. The body of fashions holds trace of all types of bodies.
6. Codes are the anchor points of the unceasing future.
7. Sustainability is designing timeless items that can be combined freely.
8. Materials determine and alter shapes.
9. Knowing ones self means being aware of the tradition one comes from.
